Certainly the maps that we use from MapQuest or Google are up to the task of helping you find anyplace in Tampa, but sometimes, they aren't that convenient, and lack the 'big picture" aspect that a good local map can provide.

AAA offers free maps to it's members and there is an office in Clearwater.

I have found that the best map that covers a big area (the entire county) and has most of the major roads is the bus map. More specifically, the System Map of the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority.

Some of the touristy maps have so many ads on them that the map ends up getting made smaller and smaller - free but not that user-friendly.

Maps and Directions

Most people living on the West Coast of Florida are transplants from somewhere in the Midwest. As such, thery tend to be noticeably more hospitable than their counterparts on the Florida East coast that hail from the Northeast.

What does this mean?

It means that stopping and asking directions won't leave you feeling stupid.
