Car rentals in Florida are generally pretty inexpensive compared to national rates. However, many visitors to downtown Tampa use the friendly Trolley to get around. It's cheap and can be fun.
Taxis are available as well as gound transportation to and from the Tampa Airport. Local bus service, while regular, can be a time consuming experience.
So, if you're planning on staying in the Tampa area for some time, use the trolley, but if you want to get around and broaden your vistas, a car is a good idea.
